All Dressed Up with Places to Go Local shop owners suggest clothing trends and brands for all occasions
So much to do in Eagle County—hike the local trails or hit the ski slopes by day, and then go out for cocktails and a romantic dinner by night. Wander through small-town Main Streets shopping for souvenirs or attend any number of outdoor special events, such as the Minturn Market, Eagle County Fair or Gypsum Daze. But what’s a girl to wear?
We asked local clothing-store owners for their suggestions for different occasions in Eagle County—from casual daytime attire to dressy date clothes. Here’s what these fashion-forward experts had to say.
Rondi Berge, owner of Pine Clothes, adjacent to her Pinecones Gifts & Interiors in Avon, says she regularly helps clients find something special to wear to an evening event at the Vilar Center for the Arts at Beaver Creek. She carries women’s clothing in sizes 2 to 16. “We follow the trends, but focus on traditional, classic pieces that fit” a woman’s body, says Berge.
Accessories for a fancy night out might include a scarf tied around the neck or waist (“Scarves are huge this year,” she says), or chunky jewelry. “Grey is the hot color now, and going into spring we’ll still see metallics, as well a some really bold colors—red, yellow and royal blue.”
Velvet and faux fur are two textures found in cool-weather togs this winter. Berge suggests wearing a cute reversible jacket in faux suede and shearling with slacks or jeans—which she also carries at Pine Clothes in a variety of price ranges. For a sportier outfit, pair denim with a sweater from Icelandic or Néve. Patti Weinstein, owner of Roxy in Vail and Beaver Creek, says that she looks to what celebrities are wearing, since that’s what drives business in her store. This winter, she’s seeing a lot of wine, plum and mustard paired with the “it color” of the season: grey.
A popular look this winter is a casual top with subtle embellishment (“Not a lot of glitter like we’ve seen in the past,” says Weinstein) worn with a “clean,” un-embellished jeans, usually in a dark, solid wash. She anticipates that J Brand jeans, named by Vogue magazine as one of the “7 Essentials” of the season, will sell quickly in the coming months. Michael Stars’ T-shirts and Eco Ganik’s sweat-tops, made with environmentally friendly fabrics, are other big sellers.
Weinstein says her clients wear outfits from Roxy “everywhere.” “We’ve got hoodies and casual pants that women can slip on after skiing,” she notes. “The tunic tops that are so popular now can be paired with tights, high boots and a swing jacket for going out to dinner.”
Erin Seabury at Everyday Outfitters in downtown Eagle offers comfortable casual wear for the entire family. Whether you’re watching the cowboys compete at the Eagle County Fair and Rodeo, working at the office, or walking the trails, there’s a look for your ever-changing lifestyle. Everyday Outfitters carries popular brands like prAna, Patagonia, Horny Toad, Lucky Brand Jeans and Paige Denim. |
