Change for the better is always a good thing. Read at least one new book a month! Join a new club or try a new sport.
Treat yourself to new clothes that flatter your new body or a DVD of a favorite movie. I simply decided that my New Year's resolution was to condition my mind to view the world in a more positive light and in return, have an overall better attitude towards life and everything within it.
Millions of people across the country are about to commit to going on a diet. In addition to eating less, many people are determined to start cooking healthier foods. Millions of Americans look forward to the New Year with a list of good intentions to improve their quality of life. Of the millions of resolutions to lose weight and eat healthier, most will not last much past January 2.
Weight loss is hard work. 77 percent of Americans who make resolutions eventually give up on their goal, with 35 percent quitting by the end of January.
Planning your vacation in fit cities with lots of recreational choices, like San Diego, can make staying fit while vacationing very easy! Plan healthy snacks ahead of time. Take five apples to work with you on Monday for your 3 P.M break. Building social support into your goal can also help you get around obstacles.
Remember that exercise is a great way to reduce stress too. Seek professional help if you need it. Start with at least six servings daily of breads, cereals, rice and pasta, three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruits. Add two to three servings from the dairy and meat groups.
According to the New York Times through out the last decade use of credit cards has increased dramatically. The number of people having credit cards raised about 75 percent from 82 million in 1990 to 144 million in 2003. However, the debt burden that they carry had grown 350 percent from $338 billion to an astounding $1.5 trillion.
Decide now that you don't have to keep up with their consumption to fit into the crowd. The choice is yours -- not theirs. Decide first on your goals: paying off debt, saving for retirement, or creating a college fund. Set up an online account with automatic bill paying, and set aside money from your account for each goal, instructing the bank to make automatic payments.
According to a Quick Study Academic reference guide called Keys to College Success, goals should be specific, clear, realistic and always written down. People who really want to achieve their goals should set target dates for self-evaluation and write them down.
One of the most common New Year's resolutions is to promise yourself you're going to write the book you feel you've always had in you. Well, if you can't manage a whole book, at least write an article!
According to the Wall Street Journal, the average individual wastes six weeks per year (or one hour per day) searching for MISSING information in messy desks and files. Time wasted as a result of disorganization DETRACTS from your ability to focus on what’s important in life. According to mensstuff.org 50 to 65 % of husbands and 45 to 55 % of wives have extra-marital affairs. And don’t forget how many couples have lost that spark, or are even thinking about getting divorced. What can we do to improve our lives and that of everyone around us?
Remember, most people try repeatedly before they succeed at change. If you slip up, you're not a failure.
Changing goals doesn’t mean you’re a failure, but rather it means you have the wisdom to see your priorities, the ability to accept unexpected changes in life, and the courage to make change. You may also realize that your timelines or other parts of your plan aren’t realistic once you get into a project. |
