FOR THE 3RD ANNUAL GOLDEN GALLOP SEPTEMBER 6, 2008

Run or walk though the splendor of beautiful Golden, Colorado to defeat pancreatic cancer

DENVER, CO (Saturday, September 6, 2008) - The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s (www.pancan.org) Denver affiliate today announces the 3rd Annual Golden Gallop: Race to Defeat Pancreatic Cancer on Saturday, September 6th at Splash Aquatic Park in Golden. The 10K run, 5K run/walk and 1K fun run will help fund the ongoing programs at the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, including research grants, patient services and community events to raise awareness, create hope and ultimately find a cure for this terrible disease.

Registration is now open at www.goldengallop.org and is $25 for adults, $10 for kids 12 and under in the fun run. Participants are encouraged to fundraise through their personalized event page. Incentive prizes will be awarded at the $75, $200 and $500 fundraising levels.

The Golden Gallop kicks-off with on-site registration at 7:15am. The 10K run begins at 8am, followed by the 5K walk/run at 8:15am and the 1K kids’ fun run at 10am.

This one-of-a-kind 5K or 10K course highlights the views of Lookout Mountain, Golden's foothills and downtown Golden. This is a certified course and chip-timed event, for the competitive spirit, or a picturesque way to spend the morning for the more leisure-minded. Strollers are allowed, towards the back of the start. Leashed and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

The Golden Gallop will help raise awareness of the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the United States. In 2008, nearly 38,000 Americans will be diagnosed with the disease and over 33,000 will die. Despite the devastating statistics, pancreatic cancer is the least funded among leading cancer killers with less than 2% of the National Cancer Institute’s annual research budget allocated to the disease-- a figure far too low given the severity of the disease.
