Greccio provides permanent housing solutions

It’s not easy to find affordable housing in a city that’s growing at the speed of light. Luckily, Greccio provides a long-term solution for the housing problem in Colorado Springs by rehabilitating and renting properties at below-market rates to families and individuals with limited incomes.

The nonprofit purchases, rehabilitates, and develops multi-family properties throughout Colorado Springs, and then rents them to families and individuals with low incomes. Greccio owns nine properties with 130 apartments, ranging in size from efficiencies to three-bedrooms.

Who does Greccio serve?

Residents come from all walks of life: families, individuals, all ages, and abilities. Applicants must meet minimum income requirements (approximately two to three times the rent) and be able to provide proof of this income. Greccio also looks at employment, rental credit, and criminal history. About 25 percent of Greccio residents are elderly or disabled, and 15 to 20 percent have lived in homeless situations.

How else does Greccio help?

A Resident Enrichment Manager works with residents as needed in coordinating assistance from social service agencies. This includes food, clothing, healthcare, childcare, job training, and budgeting. There is also a computer E-Center where residents can engage in a self-directed job search, use software tutorials, and generally hone their computer skills.
