Biodegradable: Capable of being broken down by microorganisms

Carbon Footprint: Amount of carbon dioxide emissions created (by a person, group or industry)

CFL: Compact Fluorescent Lamp (energy-saving light bulbs)

Daylighting: Use of sunlight (direct, diffused or reflected) to provide supplemental lighting for interiors

Emissions: Vehicle exhaust, greenhouse gases or carbon dioxide

Fossil Fuel: Oil, coal and natural gas

LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design — standards for "green" construction

Photovoltaics: Use of solar cells to convert sunlight to electricity

Renewable Energy: Use of sunlight, wind, ocean tides or heat in the earth to create energy
