High blood pressure symptoms can occur when the normal range is violated over a period of time. Harmful pressure in the arteries can cause rupturing and damage. High blood pressure symptoms also worsen with age. Factors that make us more prone to high blood pressure are our genes, being overweight, lack of exercise, or in some cases kidney problems.
Arteries are vessels that carry blood from the pumping heart to all the tissues and organs of the body. High blood pressure does not mean excessive emotional tension, although emotional tension and stress can temporarily increase blood pressure. Arteries carry blood from your heart to your body. This is a part of your vital signs.
Hypertension/High Blood Pressure untreated is proven to damage the heart, arteries, brain and kidneys. Hypertensive encephalopathy is a symptom complex of severe hypertension, headache, vomiting, visual disturbance, mental status changes, seizure, and retinopathy with papilledema. Focal signs and symptoms are uncommon and may indicate another process, such as cerebral infarct or hemorrhage. Hypertension occurs when arterioles, small blood vessels that branch off from the arteries, become constricted making it difficult for blood to pass through them. As a result, blood pressure rises causing your heart to work harder. Heart medications have more serious side effects than any other class of prescription drugs.
Hypertension is more common in men than women in every ethnic group up to age of 50. Hypertension is also more common in obese individuals, in diabetics and in those with a familial history of high blood pressure High blood pressure is a silent disease and many individuals have no idea that they even have it. Hypertensive retinopathy is the damage to the retina (the light-sensitive membrane lining the back of the eyeball) due to uncontrolled high blood pressure. When the blood vessels in the retina become weakened and rupture or bleed, a person's vision becomes impaired. Hypertension is usually diagnosed on finding blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg measured on both arms on three occasions over a few weeks. Normal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.
Women are at higher risk to develop high blood pressure after menopause. High blood pressure is more common among blacks and usually develops at an earlier age. Over half of all Americans aged 60 and older have high blood pressure.
Normal blood pressures in humans vary with age. Older persons usually have higher blood pressure because of a decrease in the elasticity of the walls of the arteries.
Hypertension is not a light disease that shouldn’t be worried about; on the contrary, it is a very serious disease. Its cause is unknown, and if left untreated, can lead to severe heart problems and even death. Hypertension occurs most often in people who are over 35 years old.
Hypertension or high blood pressure can be described as primary or secondary hypertension. Primary hypertension refers to an unclear cause of it. Hypertension is a dangerous disease because it causes your heart to work much harder. If your heart is required to work harder for extended periods, it will become enlarged. |
