Jack Williams' New CD "Don't Let Go", Released May 2008
“Don’t Let Go” is a collection of 22 songs which were major influences on the music and 51-year career of singer/songwriter, Jack Williams. This album represents a departure from his previous CDs of original music. The songs reflect his many years in the folk, jazz, rock, R&B, folk, country, and classical music realms. Williams pays tribute not just to the songwriters, but to certain artists who performed the songs, and to the artists' the styles which had a lasting impact on Williams’ work. “Don’t Let Go” is named for the late 50s hit sung by Roy Hamilton, which is included on the album. Even though the songs range from a 1920s blues tune and a 1950s George Shearing jazz piece, and from a mysterious rocker from The Band and a doo-wop classic to Sinatra and Frankie Laine crooners, they’re all performed either as solo pieces or in an acoustic ensemble with Williams on guitar and vocals and his South Carolina-based musical friends: banjo (Susan Taylor), fiddle (Robert Bowlin), mandolin (Danny Harlow), acoustic bass (Cary Taylor), and viola (Virginia Peninger). Also featured are Wayne Manning on bass vocals, Michigander Bill Hart on fluegelhorn and Robert Bowlin on violin. (Robert, Bill Monroe's last fiddler, has played on several of Jack’s CDs.) The CD-cover is a collage by Donna Stjerna, of the Arkansas duo ‘Still On the Hill’. Jack Williams, a former resident of Summit County, CO, now based in NW Arkansas, continues his touring career as a singer, writer of original songs, guitarist and storyteller. He has seven CDs and one DVD on Wind River Records. Ordering info: CD’s $15, DVD $20 plus shipping, available at http://www.jackwilliamsmusic.com
