Local Browns fans show their colors by giving back

It takes a brave soul to cheer for another pro football team when you’re in Broncos territory. But for the Pikes Peak Browns Backers (PPBB), they figure there’s safety in numbers.

Self described as a “group of diehard Browns fans, mostly transplants from Ohio,” PPBB’s members gather at Yukon Tavern every game day to watch their team play. The local chapter is one of 279 worldwide, accounting for some 100 members of the nearly 50,000 Browns Backers worldwide.
“In addition to just having fun rooting for our team, we hold fundraisers to support the local community,” says local chapter president Kevin Sabins. “We have raffles for Browns jerseys and merchandise, and also sell PPBB t-shirts and sweatshirts. All the money we raise is donated back to a local worthy cause.”

In October 2006, the group raised $1,000 for the Start Something Girls, a local group of Girl Scouts that bought bulletproof vests for Air Force military dogs being sent to Iraq.

“We also have a yearly canned food drive for Care and Share,” explains Sabins. “And our annual dog food drive has collected more than two tons of dog food.”

Other fundraising has included financial donations to the Special Olympics, the Red Cross Tsunami Fund, El Pomar Foundation, All Breed Rescue and El Paso County Search and Rescue, among others.
