MCPN provides safety net for underserved, uninsured
Across the nation and in Colorado, the high cost of medical care and medical insurance has increased the number of uninsured and underserved patients. To fill in the health care gap for this population, the Metro Community Provider Network (MCPN) is the health care safety net in Jefferson and Arapahoe counties. Medical and health education services are provided at five community health care sites including the newest clinic in Arvada. MCPN also operates a dental clinic in Jefferson County.

The clinic services include well-child visits, immunizations, physicals, and chronic disease management, explains John Reid, Vice president of Development for MCPN. Prenatal care is also available in Jefferson County. Some clinical initiatives focus on diabetes, asthma, immunization, and women's health. Last year, the network served approximately 40,000 individuals, families and children in the health care and dental clinics in Jefferson County.

“We are finding that our numbers are increasing year to year in leaps and bounds because some employers are not providing health care insurance any more because it is too expensive,” he explains.
According to Reid, one of the great things about Jefferson County is the partnership among the network. For example, Exempla Lutheran Hospital, New West Physicians, and Denver Oncology Consortium also serve this population. “The partnership helps us work together so we are on the same page,” he says.

Every March, the network hosts The Green Tie event, a function that raises significant funds, which are generously matched by the Lutheran Medical Community Foundation. “Jefferson County support has been instrumental to us to provide quality health care to folks who need it,” says Reid. “Everybody who cares about healthcare knows what we are, how we operate and how we make an extraordinary difference.”
