| Preparing for summer visitors |

If you live in Colorado, I can guarantee you that if you have friends and family, you are going to have summer visitors. Face it, they plan to stay with you and be entertained!
For some reason, that is a daunting thought, getting the house ready for your special guests. Relax! If they are truly your friends they are coming to see you and not your home. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t fuss a little. Start with the guest room …
Erma Bombeck said to never give up your own bed, as any bed other than their own is foreign to them, so the floor is just as good. Well, maybe not that drastic, but you get the point.
Stay in your own bed, as you need all the sleep to keep up with the adrenaline-junkie vacation-goer. They are here for a reason: to go to as many places in four days as you would normally do in a year! I digress … back to the guest room.
I love to put those cute little shampoos and such that you get in the hotels in the guest bath. At one point, I could have opened my own boutique hotel with the shear amount of them I had collected. (Instead, I took them to the homeless shelter.)
Another nice touch is certainly a small bouquet next to their bed, and of course scattered around the house. As a bonus, you’ll create the illusion you live like that all the time.
A fresh fruit bowl or a munchie basket is a nice touch also for your guest to feel as though if they are hungry, they are not in your pantry. And please don’t feel like you need to cook every meal. Go out! And know that splitting the bill is ok. After all, they are staying with you. They should actually pick up the tab, although every instance is different.
Colorado has so many beautiful places to visit. There are day trips in every direction. Besides Denver, there are many small mountain towns to enjoy! I highly recommend you visit the Colorado Visitors Bureau for the best results. My vacation this year is what I call “My Big-City Vacation,” which includes Chicago and New York City. I love to go, go, go, so this kind of trip is perfect!
A vacation on the beach isn’t for me, as I am a fair redhead and not a sun god! So, I slather on the sunscreen and hit the street for shopping and museums up and down Madison Avenue and Lake Shore Drive.
I have a good friend coming this August, his first time to Colorado. I plan to take a few extra days to show him around. First thing is the grand reopening of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, August 3rd and 4th. (csfineartscenter.org/)
On the to do list also would be the Colorado Festival of World Theatre, the last two weeks of September. (cfwt.org/) You should call for details!
For sure the guest room will be ready, flowers on the bedside table, an impressive array of recycled toiletries from fine hotels, good sheets, clean towels, and I have even thrown in a shower cap. Why? Because I have brought those silly things home along with the shampoos. He’ll never use it, but it makes the presentation look better. I hope whoever comes to your home this summer or wherever you go, the guest room is just right! Happy summer, happy guests, and happy travels!
