Since 1981, Bob Rozinski and Wendy Shattil have combined distinctly different photo-graphic backgrounds to produce unique and sensitive interpretations of nature.

Their 12 books include “Born Wild in Colorado”; “Valley of the Dunes,” (named Best Photography Book of 2005 by USA Books); and Colorado Book Award finalist, “On the Trail of Colorado Critters.” Their books “City Foxes” and “Wildlife Detectives” each won the National Science Foundation’s Outstanding Science Books for Children award.

The duo has received the Conservationists of the Year and Business of the Year Awards from the Colorado Wildlife Federation and are Department Associates for the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Both photographers are recipients of the Philip Hyde Grant for environmental photography and Denver Audubon’s Environmental Stewardship Award. They are members of the elite group, International League of Conservation Photographers.

“We learned very early in our photographic careers that the best way to influence people about nature and the environment was to tell a story using evocative photographs,” explains Shattil.
Although the couple has traveled throughout North America photographing wildlife and nature for 28 years, they take to heart the philosophy, “think globally, act locally.”

“We invest a fair amount of time photographing close to home in Colorado and the Front Range,” says Rozinski. “Peregrine falcons nesting in downtown Denver, urban wildlife from Castle Rock to Boulder, and the habitat oasis that is Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, are just a few of our favorite Front Range subjects.”

As they accumulated field knowledge, 400,000 images and an irreplaceable network over 28 years, the team has become increasingly more effective implementing a conservation message.
Colorado’s critters couldn’t be happier.
