 Give to end domestic violence

Since 1979, Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) has been a safe place for healing, hope and opportunity for individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. Whether sheltering a woman and her children fleeing an abuser, or supporting a survivor healing from the trauma of violence, SPAN has been a beacon of safety and hope for thousands in our community. As a woman recently shared, “SPAN has been a bright light in a dark tunnel. The staff has shown me my self-worth and potential. With their support, I’ve become stronger, more independent and more sure of who I am.”

As a community we are all impacted by domestic violence. One in four women will experience violence by an intimate partner at some time in her life. Children exposed to domestic violence are at significant risk for emotional and behavior problems. The annual health care costs related to intimate partner abuse in the United States exceeds $5.8 billion dollars.

Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence works to ensure that support and resources are available to families in our community impacted by domestic violence. This year, SPAN opened its new Emergency Shelter and Resource Center, which increased its shelter capacity by 60 percent and included additional services like an on-site health clinic, client computer center, and therapeutic children’s play area.

In addition to shelter and a 24-hour crisis/information line, SPAN also provides legal advocacy, counseling services for adults and children in locations throughout Boulder and Broomfield Counties, transitional housing, school-based violence prevention programs and much more. SPAN programs and ways you can support their work.

Domestic violence is preventable. Together, we can ensure that critical support is available to those in need. Together and we can end violence in our homes and community.
