“Take only photos, leave only footprints.” It’s a motto that Leave No Trace proponents advocate to outdoor enthusiasts through these seven principles:
1. Plan ahead and prepare. Poor planning can lead to improperly located campfires, as well as excessive trash.
2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces. Trampling on surface vegetation or communities of organisms can cause soil erosion.
3. Dispose of waste properly. Pack up all trash and avoid contamination of natural water resources. 4. Leave everything as you find it. Leave rocks, plants, or artifacts. Avoid digging, clearing rocks or twigs, or hammering nails into trees.
5. Minimize campfire impacts. Use lightweight stoves to reduce the need for firewood. If you must use a campfire, use an existing fire ring or a fire pan.
6. Respect wildlife. Don’t approach or interfere with wildlife.
7. Be considerate of others. Learn hiking etiquette and keep noise to a minimum. — WBT |
